Several sequences characterize the volcano of Bournac situated on the NW plateau of the Mézenc in the East Velay district. The beginning of the eruption was hydro-magmatic including intrusive dykes and a diatreme enclosing deep xenoliths, underlying a maar. Tephras and lava-flows overlapped directly during a vulcano-strombolian second phase. The K-Ar dating enables us to date the cessation of the eruptive activity of the massif including Bournac to approximately 7 Ma during Upper Miocene.
